Kiosk IT equipment within the enclosure

The kiosk enclosure houses a laptop, touch screen monitor, printer, and UPS (uninterruptible power supply).

Operating temperatures, humidity levels, air ventilation and air circulation are factors to be addressed in placement of the enclosure so that the IT equipment and kiosk application can function 24 hours a day, seven days a week as designed. Both the thru the wall and stand alone enclosure models have a fan for ventilation and circulation. The back of the enclosure has doors that close and lock so that the general public can not access it. In order to ensure that the operating temperature and humidity levels are within the range prescribed by the manufacturers for optimal performance, the back of the enclosure must be in a temperature controlled environment. This requires the back of the enclosure to be in conditioned space, i.e., with air conditioning and heat, as required.

Placement of the enclosure should ensure that back of the enclosure is housed in conditioned space so that the following guidelines for optimal performance are met:

Dell Latitude:

Operating Temp: 0 degree C to 35 degrees C (32 degrees F to 95 degrees F)
Humidity: 10 percent to 90 percent (noncondensing)

Elo Touchscreen monitor 1547L:

Operating Temp: 0 degree C to 50 degrees C (32 degrees F to 122 degrees F)
Humidity: 20 percent to 80 percent (noncondensing)

Practical Automation ATX-38 Thermal Printer:

Operating Temp: +5 degrees C to +40 degrees C (+41 degrees F to 104 degrees F)
Humidity: 20 percent to 85 percent Relative, Non Condensing

APC Back-UPS ES 725:

Operating Temp: 0 degree C to 35 degrees C (32 degrees F to 95 degrees F)
Humidity: 10 percent to 90 percent (noncondensing)

Overhang needed

Thru the wall enclosures must be under an overhang to prevent the kiosk and visitors from being directly exposed to the elements. No glare from the sun should hit the touch screen monitor at any part of the day. Not only does glare make it difficult or impossible for visitors to use the kiosk, it can burn out the crystals within a touch screen monitor and cause operational problems. It can withstand operating temperatures of 122 degrees F but when the sun beats down directly on it, particularly during peak daylight hours, permanent damage can be done and will void the warranty.
