Idaho receives grant to expand and improve Idaho State Veterans Cemetery at Boise

June 14, 2023

WASHINGTON — The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration (NCA) announced today that the Veterans Cemetery Grants Program (VCGP), which it oversees, has awarded a grant of up to $954,991 to the state of Idaho for the expansion and improvement of Idaho State Veterans Cemetery at Boise.

"This cemetery contains the graves of men who gave their lives in the War in Afghanistan and Iraq, most who were under the age of 25," says Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Matthew Quinn. NCA appreciates their service and sacrifice to our nation, and we are proud to help the state of Idaho continue to provide a resting place that provides dignity and respect to our servicemembers and Veterans."

The cemetery currently serves more than 63,000 Veterans and their eligible family members living within 75 miles of the cemetery. The grant will fund 1,810 cremains gravesites, walls for 1,215 memorial markers, and supporting infrastructure and landscaping.

Since its inception in 1978, the VCGP has provided more than $1 billion to establish, expand, improve, and maintain 122 state, territorial and tribal Veterans cemeteries. In fiscal year 2022, these cemeteries conducted more than 45,000 interments.
