Minnesota Receives Grant to Expand Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery - Little Falls

July 19, 2023

WASHINGTON — The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration (NCA) announced today that the Veterans Cemetery Grants Program (VCGP), which it oversees, has awarded a grant of up to $751,079 to the state of Minnesota for the expansion of Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery - Little Falls. VA will also reimburse the State $620,000 for the cost of fabrication and delivery of outer burial receptacles used for the project.

"These grants help ensure Veterans and their families in Minnesota receive the same burial and memorial benefits as those enshrined in VA national cemeteries," said Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Matthew Quinn. Those benefits include a gravesite; opening and closing of the grave; perpetual care of the site; a headstone or marker; burial flag; and Presidential Memorial Certificate," according to Quinn.

The cemetery currently serves more than 59,000 Veterans and their eligible family members. The grant will fund 742 pre-placed crypts, landscaping, irrigation, and supporting infrastructure.

Since its inception in 1978, the VCGP has provided more than $1 billion to establish, expand, improve, and maintain 122 state, territorial and tribal Veterans cemeteries. In fiscal year 2022, these cemeteries conducted more than 45,000 interments.
