North Dakota receives grant to expand North Dakota Veterans Cemetery

March 14, 2023

WASHINGTON — The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration (NCA) announced today that the Veterans Cemetery Grants Program (VCGP), which it oversees, has awarded a grant of up to $1,860,775 to the state of North Dakota for the expansion of North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.

"Last August, I had the honor of attending the cemetery's 30th Anniversary," said Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Matthew T. Quinn. "It is a privilege to witness the outstanding dedication to preserving Veterans legacies and providing stellar customer service to their families. We are proud to help this cemetery continue with its legacy."

North Dakota Veterans Cemetery currently serves more than 10,000 Veterans and their eligible family members living within 75 miles of the cemetery. The grant will fund 1,440 columbarium niches, landscaping, and supporting infrastructure on approximately one acre of land.

Since its inception in 1978, the VCGP has funded the establishment, expansion, improvement, operation and maintenance of 122 cemeteries. In fiscal year 2022, these cemeteries conducted more than 47,000 burials.
