Wisconsin Receives $3,320,300 Grant to Expand Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery

June 16, 2021

WASHINGTON — The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration (NCA) announced today that the VA Veterans Cemetery Grants Program (VCGP), which is overseen by NCA, has awarded the state of Wisconsin a grant of $3,320,300 for the expansion of Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, Wisconsin.

"VA's grants to state, territorial and tribal governments to fund Veterans cemeteries have been vital to making burial accessible for millions of Veterans across the nation," said Acting Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Ronald Walters. "Today, thanks to this financial support, more than 93% of all U.S. Veterans live within 75 miles of a VA, state or tribal Veterans cemetery."

The Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery serves approximately 104,909 Veterans and their eligible family members. This expansion grant will fund the construction of 428 new pre-placed crypts, as well as a flag assembly area, committal service shelter, irrigation functionality, landscaping, and supporting infrastructure on approximately 3.45 acres.

The VA Veterans Cemetery Grants Program (VCGP) was designed to complement the VA national cemetery system by funding state and tribal Veterans cemeteries to increase access to burial benefits for Veterans and their eligible family members. Since its inception in 1978, the program has provided almost $908 million to establish, expand, improve, operate and maintain 119 cemeteries which are currently interring Veterans. In fiscal year 2020, these cemeteries provided more than 37,000 burials to Veterans and their eligible family members.
